I, human

6/20/2014
I stand perplexed by the notion of humanity. What does it truly mean to be human? Our nature often seems so fundamentally contradictory. It seems we continually try to justify our actions, find purposes and redefine our own views and philosophies in an effort to hide parts of our psyche from one another. We so desperately need not to be whole or not to exist as a single entity with a constant and consistent character, desires and wishes. Perhaps this is due to a physical boundary. Howeve...

Windows 100% disk utilization solution

10/6/2013
I have been having problems with disk utilization in Windows 8 for quite some time. I went through numerous proposed solutions, but none of them worked. I decided to write an article about this and some of the solutions I found. First article I wrote on this subject is available on this site (Windows 8 hangs due to 100% disk utilization). I thought that the problem was resolved after applying some fixes, but it was not. Some of the disk activity was reduced after the fixes I proposed in...

Windows 8 hangs due to 100% disk utilization

5/22/2013
Some time after I installed Windows 8 on my machine, it stared interrupting my work by onsets of very slow operation. I noticed that the LED signaling disk activity was constantly on. Sometimes the interruptions were random, sometimes expected. If I started an activity that demanded reading from disk, my system would go into a painful slowdown, and it would be almost impossible to continue normal operation until the disk operations are done. Windows was installed on a high-performance...

Determinism and Free Will

5/1/2013
The laws of physics dictate the processes that go on, have gone on and are going to go on in the universe. They dictate the state of our universe. Until the quantum mechanics arrived, it was believed that every state of any given natural system could be predicted if the adequate natural laws and the history of the system are known. This is called determinism. Everything that will be is predetermined. It is not written in paper as a prediction or a prophecy. It is dictated by a natural l...

Boosting the Empathy

4/8/2013
Recently, I watched a very interesting video, a drawing interpretation of a TED talk given by Jeremy Rifkin. He explains that human beings are very empathic creatures and that, essentially, we are better than we think we are. He points out that it is in human nature to be empathic and understanding of one another and that this is the mechanism that enables us to understand the behavior of our fellow human beings. Research led to discovery of, so-called, mirror neurons, which enable us t...
